Athletics and soccer formed two key sports events during the annual sports day for Peer Educators in Chiromo campus on February 1, 2020 at the University of Nairobi grounds.
The sports activities were important for members to have an opportunity to interact and create better relations especially after first year' orientation to Peer mentors club, which took place on October 9, 2019.
Athletics games comprised short races: relays and 100 meter race. With close to 50 participants, a friendly soccer match took place too, where two teams competed with substitution adjustments customised to suite the game, so that all interested member could take part.
Chiromo Campus Peer Educators (CCPE), the lead organizers of the sports event, is a student organization that deals with peer education and mentorship in the College.
According to the Chairman of the club, Caleb Kibet, a fourth year student studying Bachelor of Science in Physics, " the event's success exceeded expectations. Other than helping to raise fitness level of students, new student members were registered in the club."
"The sports event planning also didn't come without challenges", notes Caleb, "the event had to be postponed as it was meant to take place in December 2019, however, due to the 62nd graduation planning and examinations, there was need to postpone the event." Usually the annual sports event takes place immediately after freshers settle in.
The winning team received CCPE wrist bands for their fete.
The patron of the club is Ms. Lucy Kamau, the Student Councellor, College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS).
